The World Cup this event has made a lot of football heroes as well as an octopus living in the German Oberhausen Aquarium was created, it is called Paul. In the 2008 European Cup and the 2010 World Cup, Octopus Paul predicted 13 times in 14 contests and made a reputation for 92.8%. The octopus is actually a very complicated creature. Let's briefly introduce it.

The octopus is short ovoid, saclike, and without fins; the head and body are not clearly defined. The head of the octopus is about 7-9.5cm. There are large compound eyes and 8 contractile wrists on the head. Each wrist has two rows of fleshy suction cups. The short wrist is about 12cm long, the long wrist is about 48.5cm long, and the real wrist is about 32.5 cm long. It usually uses its wrist to crawl. Sometimes it uses the wrist film to expand and contract to swim. It can hold the object vigorously and use the funnel spray in the lower part of the head to make a quick retreat. The base of the wrist is connected to a webbed tissue called a skirt, and its center has a mouth. The mouth has a pair of sharp horny enamel and rachiglossate radula to break the shell and scrape the meat. Ordinary octopus is medium-sized, widely distributed in tropical and temperate waters around the world, and live in caves or gaps in the rocky seabed. This creature is considered to be the most intelligent of invertebrates, with highly developed pigment-containing cells that change body color very quickly.

If you want to keep an octopus, how do we choose them? Octopus has a life span of 1 to 2.5 years. You can choose small or medium-size octopus because if its size is too large, it cannot company with you for a long time. Also check its body to see if there is any injury, especially its head. If it cannot swim freely, move slowly and there is no mucus on its wrist when it is stretched out, it might not be healthy so we cannot choose it. Observing the octopus from the shape is also necessary, if its eyes are in the head, its action will be affected. Make sure they have normal eyes! If its body color is white or tends to be white, it is also a sign that it is not healthy. Therefore, octopuses mentioned above cannot be selected and you need to pay attention to these.

How to keep an octopus? First of all, we must provide it with a comfortable living environment. Arrange the fish tank according to the original living environment of the octopus you purchased. For example, the zebra octopus lives in the submarine sands of Indonesia, and we are going to provide this octopus with thick shell sand for it to dig a hole. The more like the simulated living environment is, the easier it is for the octopus to adapt. At the same time, it is necessary to clean the fish tank in advance and adjust the seawater quality. No matter what kind of fish or shrimp you keep in the fish tank, choosing a good
fish aquarium filter is necessary. Check our fish tank filters and select the most suitable one for you! There are hang on filter, in-tank filter, multilayer filter, etc on senzeal. It is worth noting that you should not disturb the octopus in the fish tank for the first 3 days. For example, knocking on the cylinder wall or suddenly appearing in front of it, this may scare it and jet ink. They usually sleep during the day and come out at night. You can try to feed them 4 to 9 days after you put them in the aquarium. It is best to feed them with live food first, such as shrimps and small fishes. Please make sure to feed them with shrimps because the octopus needs astaxanthin! They may not eat immediately when you start feeding them. Don't worry, they will secretly eat the feed when you walk away.

There are other things to be aware of when raising octopus: the aquarium for keeping the octopus must have a lid to prevent it from climbing out. In order to ensure the quality of the seawater, the filter port should be separated from the feeding area. You need to feed them more in Summer and feed them less in Winter. Besides, a good
fish aquarium light is a must for your fish tank! Many creatures including turtle and octopus need light to see much clear about their living environment. And they will look more beautiful under the light!
