Filtration includes two parts: physical filtration and biochemical filtration. The dust and trash in the fish tank are blocked and stored to keep the fish tank clean and translucent. This is physical filtering. In fact, the most important thing is that the water in the fish tank passes through the filtration system. The toxic substances in the tank, such as ammonium nitrate, nitrosamines, etc., decompose with many beneficial bacteria represented by nitrifying bacteria and decompose into nitrogen dioxide and water-insoluble in water. Nitrogen oxide and water, so as to achieve the purpose of disinfection. This is an important biochemical filter.
Where do the toxic substances in the fish tank come from? It is mainly caused by the decay of fish manure, feed residue and fish carcasses. Therefore, especially for those who only keep big fish, the fish must be eaten less and divided into multiple meals, the residual feed will be moldy and rot, which has a great impact on the water quality. If any fish die, hurry to salvage. Relatively speaking, the grass tank filter will be better than the bare tank filter, because the grass tank has water plants, the water plants can be turned into treasure, and absorb these toxic substances as nutrients. However, aquatic plants can not directly absorb these toxic substances and must be decomposed by beneficial bacteria represented by nitrifying bacteria. For example, raw meat cannot be eaten directly, it must be cooked before it can be eaten.
So if there is no filtration, the fish tank will not only suspend all kinds of dust and garbage everywhere, causing the fish tank to become gray, the toxic substances in the fish tank will also increase, and finally, the organism in the tank will die chronically. It’s like the fact that people can’t live in the toilet all the time.
Having said that much, everyone should understand the important role of the fish tank filtration system, which is indeed the top priority of the fish tank. So, what filter system should we choose? Is there a filtration system with good filtration effect, low cost and convenient maintenance? The answer is the in-cylinder bottom filtration system to be described below.
The principle of the bottom filter system in the cylinder is to lay a layer of bottom filter plate on the bottom of the cylinder, and then connect the water pump and the bottom filter plate with a white hose. Because the bottom filter plate is hollow, when covered with landscaping sand and added water, there is actually a layer of water at the bottom of the fish tank. When the pump is turned on, the pump will pump out the accumulated water, and the water in the fish tank will also penetrate through the gap of the sand due to the water pressure, thus forming a water circulation. In this process, since sand is a very good filtering material, it can achieve a very good filtering effect.
Advantages: The cost is very low, only a few tenths of the external filter bucket, the effect is indeed not as good as the external filter bucket, but the difference is almost the same. Because the bottom of the fish tank is hollow, there is no compaction, and the water plants have enough oxygen to breathe, so it will not be rooted. What’s more, because it is at the bottom of the fish tank, it will not occupy the space of the fish tank like the back filter and the side filter.
Disadvantages: The pump will be exposed in the fish tank, some people will find it ugly, but you can find a way to block it with stones or branches when landscaping. For better sand tank effect, if you want to use water and grass mud, it is recommended to lay a layer of sand on the bottom filter board now.
