Why Do Kissing Fish Kiss? How Should They be Kept?

Like most ornamental fishes, kissing fish also has a sense of territory. When there are more fishes in the tank, kissing fishes realize the crisis.

Because the kissing fish itself does not have a strong fighting power, the most commonly used weapon is its jagged mouth. When they kiss, it means they are fighting with each other. Besides, the jagged mouth weapon is only suitable for the same kind of kissing fishes. Kissing is the process of testing their patience. The first one who loosens its mouth fails in this fight. So usually the time of kissing is not too short.

Kissing fish has a milder character and can be mixed with most small ornamental fishes. It is not difficult to keep them. Most of the kissing fishes are about 10cm length. When we choose a fish tank to keep them we can remember this rule: the fish tank: the fish body is 3:1. Usually, the fish tank size within 40 to 60cm would be suitable.

The water temperature for kissing fishes is between 18-30 ° C, and the optimum temperature is about 22 ° C. It does not require very high water quality, and the pH is maintained between 7.0 and 7.5. If the aquarium is planted, it is best to have a
CO2 drop checker. Especially during winter, you can use an aquarium thermometer to pay more attention to the change in water temperature.

Kissing fish like many different kinds of fish food. They like dry fish food, live worms, and earthworm. These are very good food choices. It also loves to eat moss and algae on the fish tank wall.
