The Temperature of Keeping Aquatic Plants

Aquarium water temperature is an important factor affecting the growth of aquatic plants because the physiological effects such as photosynthesis, respiration, and growth of aquatic plants are restricted and affected by aquarium temperature. Therefore, using a good aquarium thermometer to check your aquarium temperature is very vital.

1.The effect of aquarium water temperature on photosynthesis
Aquarium water temperature can neither be too high nor too low. When aquatic plants are photosynthesizing, most tropical plants cannot grow normally under 10℃, and most temperate aquatic plants cannot grow normally above 40℃. Generally, aquatic plants can quickly and normally perform photosynthesis between 24-26℃.

2.The effect of aquarium water temperature on respiration
The higher the aquarium water temperature is, the more aquatic plants breathe, and the more energy they need to consume inside. For example, waterweed consumes twice as much energy per hour at 25℃  comparing to at 15 degrees. When the aquarium water temperature gets higher, aquatic plants in the aquarium will breathe more. But when the temperature is high enough, it will affect the respiration of the aquatic plants. Different varieties of aquatic plants have different living temperatures. However, the aquatic plants can generally adapt water temperatures between 25 to 28℃, which can highly
improve
 the respiration of aquatic plants.

3.The effect of aquarium water temperature on growth
When the water temperature changes from a low degree to a high degree, the growth rate of aquatic plants will gradually increase. The aquarium water temperature should be decided according to the type of aquatic plants and other environmental factors. If the aquarium water temperature is over 35℃, aquatic plants will stop growing.

In general, most aquatic plants can grow healthily in aquarium between 25 to 28℃. When the temperature is over 35℃, aquatic plants will stop growing. When the temperature is lower than 20℃, the aquatic plants will grow slowly. Is there any way for us to control the water temperature in the fish tank? If the water temperature is too high, we can use a cooler, a fan or an ice block to cool down aquariums. If the water temperature is relatively low, the
aquarium heater can be used to raise the temperature.
