Recently, some aquarium fans ask us how to keep well a group of parrot cichlids? We summarize 4 important points for you as below.

1. Do not scare them and feed them properly

When you move them to a new tank, it is a little hard for them to adapt to the new environment. They might be afraid and hide in somewhere of the tank. Therefore, we cannot scare them and need to move out of anything that they can hide in the fish tank. Besides, we cannot feed them immediately when some of them are hungry. We can feed them less feed at each and several times a day. Moreover, they do not have high requirements for aquarium water, as long as it is clean. It can adapt to tap water too only if the water has been put under the sun.

2. Change fish tank water frequently

Although the parrot cichlid does not have a high requirement for water quality, it is necessary for us to change at least 10% of aquarium water due to several times feeding a day. Their color will become more beautiful and red by living in a clean aquarium and being fed properly. In addition, they are weaker than other fishes because they have only half of the respiratory system, so we need to take care of them well.

3. Do not raise them with other fishes together

As the parrot cichlid is timid and weak when they were born, it is dangerous to raise other fishes with them. Usually, they will get hurt when fighting with other fishes. Therefore, it is better to keep a group of parrot cichlids only.

4. Keep them in a warm water fish tank

It is true that warm water is good for parrot cichlid’s health. They will become more energetic and have a beautiful color! Usually, it would be good to keep the aquarium water temperature at 28℃-32℃. We suggest you have this Digital Aquarium and Indoor Thermometer for your fish tank.
